THE URGENCY OF CHARACTER EDUCATION IN YOUTH

     Character education has become one of the problems that have received attention recently. Many educational institutions are trying to include character education as part of the curriculum from elementary to universities. Thus what exactly is character education? According to David Elkind, "the nation of character education is a method used by educators to influence students character. In this case, the teacher teaches learning material and can be a role model for his students".

        One of the problems today is the crisis of morals and character. Many teenagers out there have bad behavior such as brawls between students, drug abuse, etc. According to zuria (in BettyKurniaty), these problems impact the declining values and norms, not only in the city but also in the village.

   Character education is essential in education. Because through character education, we seek to form human characters who understand science, excel in attitude, and speak words. According to Muhammad Takdir Ilahi, "character education aims to instill educational values based on ethics and morals. Thus, student's personality can affect their daily behavior, both in the academic environment and outside the educational environment". Therefore, in order not to fall into negative things, character education is needed by today's young generation.

    In conclusion, character education in adolescents is essential given the many problems that arise from the crisis of morals and character in children. Therefore, character education must be taught as early as possible in children to prevent unwanted things.
